15 Years of FIvolution: Yamaha Nepal Celebrates Leadership with a Revolutionary 10-Year Warranty

A decade and a half ago, a revolution ignited on the streets of Nepal. Yamaha Nepal led the charge with the groundbreaking YZF R15, marking the introduction of Fuel Injection (FI) technology to the country. This wasn’t merely a technological leap in motorcycles; it heralded a new era in the riding experience.

Introduction of FI Technology: Addressing Industry Challenges:

At a time when carburetor engines dominated the two-wheeler landscape, Yamaha’s FI engine innovation addressed significant drawbacks like decreased engine performance, higher fuel consumption, difficult starting, and excessively fast engine idling. These issues had previously gone unaddressed by motorcycle manufacturers. That ‘FI Innovation’ was something entirely new for the Nepalese market.

Revolutionizing the Riding Experience: The YZF R15 Era

In 2008, Yamaha Nepal ignited a revolution on Nepal’s roads with the introduction of the groundbreaking YZF R15, the first motorcycle equipped with Fuel Injection (FI) technology.

Back then, FI technology was a premium feature. The YZF R15 with its FI engine offered a whole new riding experience: excellent engine performance and responsiveness, great fuel efficiency, and easy starts. Its sporty design made it a favorite among motorcycling enthusiasts, while the innovative Japanese FI engine appealed to the masses.

Expanding the Reach: FI Technology for All

As Yamaha FI engines gained momentum and recognition in the market, the Yamaha parent company strategized to make FI components accessible to all.

  • Hence, in 2014, the “Lord of the Street,” the FZ, became the first naked motorcycle with an FI engine, a pioneering achievement. This was the same motorcycle that had conquered Mt. Everest base camp with the predecessor carburetor engine. The excitement with the FI engine reached a whole new level, with riders eager to see what the FZ FI motorcycle could bring to the scene. This model became one of the most appreciated motorcycles of the time, and its legacy continues with the new FZ Series models.

That same year, the Yamaha Fazer joined the FI party, further solidifying Yamaha’s leadership in fuel-injected engines. This bike was designed for adventurous road trips.

The FIvolution continued!

  • The YZF-R3, a 321cc masterpiece, arrived in 2015, equipped with a best-in-class FI system. This speedster beast was the most anticipated motorcycle of the time.
  • In 2017, the FZ25 raised the bar even higher, becoming the first 250cc motorcycle with an FI engine in Nepal. It was also the first 250cc motorcycle introduced by Yamaha in the country.
  • 2018 marked the arrival of the refined YZF R15 V3, building upon the legacy of FI technology with even more efficiency and power. With FI engines, Yamaha set new records in the Nepalese market, not just with motorcycles but also with scooters. The Nepalese market had never experienced anything like it.
  • In 2019, Yamaha introduced the first FI scooter in Nepal – the mighty NMax (155cc). The NMax, a maxi scooter with FI, was well-accepted in the Nepali market. Following this success, Yamaha introduced FI technology to the 125cc scooter segment. The Fascino 125FI became the first-ever scooter with an FI engine, offering better performance, power, and mileage. Previously, scooters ranged from 100cc to 113cc. The introduction of the Fascino with FI in 2015 changed the game, and soon, the competition followed suit with similar engine capacities.
  • Soon came the RayZR 125 FI in 2020, adding another chapter to the FI story. The scooter went on to become the best-selling scooter in modern times. Thanks to its FI technology, the public perceived the RayZR 125 FI as the highest mileage offering scooter, claiming an impressive 58 kmpl. In order to address the touring segment, the neo-retro sensation, the FZ-X, debuted in 2022 with a powerful FI engine. That same year, Yamaha launched the fastest scooter in Nepal, the Yamaha Aerox 155, further solidifying their dominance in the performance segment.
  • The FIvolution kept pushing boundaries. In 2023, Yamaha introduced Nepal’s first Hybrid scooter, the RayZR 125 FI Hybrid.
  • The story continues in 2024 with the introduction of the Yamaha FZ V3 Standard, a new performer added to the FZ Series with the best price in the category.
